Giraffe Manor Hotel – Kenya

Giraffe Manor, Nairobi

Not sure about putting a nut in your mouth for a resident giraffe to pluck out? Nor was I but these opportunities don’t come about everyday! I checked into my exquisite suite after an arduous climb and climbing trek up Mount Kenya. So I went from days without a shower to a magic, luxurious world. The six bedrooms at Giraffe Manor are named after your personal giraffe, a regular visitor to your window where a bag of treats lies enticingly close. It is the best wake up call ever. You are eye level to your own giraffe.

Modelled on a Scottish hunting lodge surrounded by 140 acres of forest just outside Nairobi you become Karen Blixen. The giraffes are a herd of endangered Rothschild species. With so few guests it is like being in a very grand, private home. Drinks before dinner are served with other guests rather like a small cocktail party. Everyone being extremely interesting, so you’ll need to have your best stories to tell. It’s like being at a very private, “A” list dinner (I imagine).

Breakfast is something you will NEVER forget. Several of the resident giraffes have their heads stuck through the windows and are extremely cheeky sticking out their black tongues hoping for snacks. It’s pretty pricey. But nothing will ever come as close to the wow factor as this.
